Missing cats and goblins go hand in hand.
Once again, trouble is brewing at the Spiderwick Estate. This time, however, it all starts with a missing cat, one of Simon’s latest pets. Jared, Simon, and Mallory are back at school, adapting to the new surroundings as well as their new home. Aunt Lucinda is still at the nuthouse and the house brownie, Thimbletack, is still lurking about. Not heeding to Thimbletack’s warning about the Arthur Spiderwick book, trouble comes to the three siblings. First, the cat goes missing. Then, Jared sees Simon get taken away by invisible enemies. The only way to rescue Simon is to get a hold of a seeing stone, a stone that has a natural hole through its’ center. Looking through the seeing stone, Jared will be able to see who took Simon. With the help of Mallory, the thirteen-year-old sister, the seeing stone is found and the two children chase after the goblins, the ones who abducted Simon. But will they find Simon before he is eaten? Or will the troll eat Mallory and Jared before they ever get to Simon? The Seeing Stone by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black (Simon & Schuster, ISBN 0-689-85937-6) is the second exciting book in The Spiderwick Chronicles. Packed with more riddles and mysteries, the story continues with even more excitement than the first book, The Field Guide.
